Freakonomics is a fascinating read. While it is not a "traditional" economics book full of theory, it is a book that is packed with insights.
The book challenges head on traditonal thinking, supposed "truths" and exposes the sometimes shocking reality of many of the social issues facing us today. Those issues include crime, education, abortion and cheating.
Mr. Levitt does an exceptional job of clearly articulating his points and exposing the truth . . . whether you want to believe it or not. He also uses very clear examples and published research to back up his conclusions.
So many books on the market today make a lot of very vague and general claims, but this book does not, it cuts right to the heart of the matter.
The book is written in an easy and interesting to read format. You'll find yourself chuckling, researching, and sometimes saddened by the information that you'll discover.
At the end of the day, you'll take away dozens of powerful insights and ideas that you can use no matter what you do for a living. You'll also learn some valuable thinking and researching lessons that will make you a better seeker of truth wherever it exists.
I strongly recommend this book to everyone, I can't imagine that anyone who gave it a bad review actually read the whole thing. My guess is that they judged it because it didn't fit their personal belief systems.
